What is an ATM?

An Automated Teller Machine (ATM) is a stand-alone machine that allows an individual convenient, 24-hour access to his or her financial accounts.

What can I do at an ATM?

Using an ATM is like interacting with your own personal teller--at your convenience you can access your financial accounts to withdraw funds, verify account balances and transfer money when needed. Some ATMs also allow you to deposit money and checks.

What do I need to use an ATM?

You can access your financial accounts at an ATM by inserting a plastic card (commonly called an ATM Card) and keying in a Personal Identification Number (PIN) which is typically a short word or number.

Where do I get my ATM Card or PIN?

You must contact your financial institution and request ATM access--they will assign you an ATM Card and PIN.

What if I lose my ATM Card or forget my PIN?

If your ATM Card or PIN is either lost or stolen, immediately contact the issuing financial institution. You should also consult the disclosures you received with the card for any additional information.

How much does it cost to use an ATM?

Surcharges are imposed by the financial institution responsible for the ATM and vary depending on the machine and the institution. This fee can range from about $.50 to $3.00 for each transaction.

However, such surcharges are waived for members belonging to credit unions participating in the Sharenet program. Sharenet allows credit union members unlimited, surcharge-free access to their credit union accounts.
